Project YOGA

International  YOGA Students Exchange  October  2016 -2017

SCEAD Foundation introduces a unique opportunity for International students who wish to come and immerse themselves in the experience that is India. We now offer a program where students can undertake a Kundalini Yoga course with a passionate and certified yoga teacher. Students can attend classes and experience for themselves the amazing benefits that this ancient technology has on the body, mind and spirit. Students will also get a chance to engage in one-on-one and group discussions on yoga philosophy. They will also be taught specific short sets which they can practice anywhere and even share with others.

At the same time, students will get an opportunity to teach English or other languages and Arts and Crafts to school children across rural and urban Bangalore and surrounding areas. This is a fantastic opportunity to interact with children and teachers, exchange cultural ideas and expand perspectives.  Students who have taught in these programs in the past have found it enriching at many levels. We recommend you try it out for yourself.

Shoes and smiles

A THOUGHT IS ALL IT TAKES

Two friends waiting for their children at the bus stop noticed that the children from a neighbouring Government school were walking bare feet in the rains on very dirty roads. It just felt SO terribly wrong on so many levels.

They talked about how they wished they could help, but didn't just stop at that.
The challenges they faced were:
1) How to separate children who had shoes from those who did not?
2) How to get a list of children, and their shoe sizes.
3) How to follow up and make sure that all the children receive the shoes and continue to wear them regularly instead of, say selling them off for a tiny amount of pocket money.
4) How to collect the funds to buy the shoes and maybe a pair of new socks, and maybe a sweet treat for each child?

They decided that each child should get a pair of shoes and socks, irrespective of age and of the fact that they already had shoes.

They contacted SCEAD Foundation, which for the past 20 years has dealt with children's and women's issues to help out with all logistics.
They spread the word in their wonderful Mantri Elegance community and lo and behold within 2 weeks had enough funds for shoes, socks and a little treat for 250 under-privileged children.

SCEAD foundation and the members of the Mantri Elegance community would love you all to be present this Saturday, August 27th between 10.00 am and 12.00 noon, at the Patel Government School, NS Palya, to help distribute Shoes, Socks, Sweets and Smiles to the wonderful students there.

A heartfelt Thank You to ALL who have contributed to this endeavour with their time, energy and generous donations.

STREET KIDS: The Cultural Exchange Project of SCEAD Foundation and Sweet Zone, A Music Band from Czech Republic

My name is Michaela Podivinska. I’m the manager and lead singer of the female
music band Sweet Zone from the Czech Republic. Two years ago I came to Bangalore for a development internship with the SCEAD Foundation. I’ve learnt about Indian culture and it concerned me a lot about the issue of child labour.

It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to the project that I’ve been planning since
seeing the life of underprivileged children through my own eyes. The cultural exchange
project “Street Kids” consists of organised musical events that would help to make people
aware of this issue of child labour in India and raise funds for the SCEAD Foundation and their
projects. The theme song of the tour would be my original piece “Street Kids” composed for
SCEAD Foundation in 2011. The tour will take place in October/ November 2013. The project
name may be a subject to change.

If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,

Bc. Michaela Podivinska
Manager of the band

About Us

Our Belief
Children are the ones to have the future of their country in their hands, therefore it’s essential to give them a chance to grow, learn and develop understanding of today’s globalized world. We believe that by raising the awareness of child labour and getting more people involved we can stop this issue that slows down the growth of developing countries.

1) Raising the awareness of the child labour issue

Educating the local audience in an interesting way on the issue of child labour. Draw the audiences attention to the core of the child labour issue.People involved in projects to stop child labour. People able to recognize child labour and aware of what to do if they come across of it. People aware of the consequences of child labour, therefore they see and have the need to prevent it.

2) Bringing cultures together

Encouraging mutual cooperation and international relationships between the two countries. Artists cooperating and delivering the project together. Youth proactively cooperating and communicating across the boarders. Our audience should brconcerned about enforcing the promotion of issue of child labour and solving the issue of child labour. The audience should be motivated to get Corporate Social Responsibility involved in local projects and enhance the corporate and NGOs and foundations brand image.

Let the World Know Who is Joseph Kony , Make Him Visible

Invisible Children asks that the entire world comes together on April 20th, wearing Kony 2012 T-shirts in protest ‘covering the night‘.

Joseph koney is the head of Lod resistance Army(LRA) nototorious for abducting children to become child-sex slave and
Child soldier.

Kony was indicted for war crimes against humanity by international criminal court in the Hauge in 2005 but has evaded capture
so far. He claims that he is fighting for ten commmandments and see himself as fredom fighter.
He is not much active for last few years but "Kony 2012" documentry created by invisible children has caused a surge in attention.

But this video has sensationalized the issue than presenting the facts. Wikileaks says "Invisible Children" spied for ugandan
resume. Many people says why no attention has been given to General butt naked who has caused mayhem in same magnaitude. Whatever
the reason is but this whole drama has drawn attention towards treatment of children by society.

We can think that this problem is only in african countries or srilanka and indian problem is limited to child labor.
But in militancy torn states like jk,  chattisgarh, jharkhan, andhra pradesh, ordisha recruitment of children as rebel or soldier is rife. They are fighting for rebel
as well as establishment. In india no study has been done about number of child soldier. The main reason they take up arams is
extreme poverty that they are facing. And when they start earning which causes better life style for their family.

According to the government officials there is no government policy or official guideline about what to do with child soldier
picked up during raid or encounters. Though they are returned to their parents, there is no direction for their rehabilitation.

Child Soldiers of India

Indian Maoists step up recruitment of child soldiers

India as a nation is facing a new problem concerning its children- emergence of children as soldiers in strife -torn states of Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, AndhraPradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Manipur, Nagaland and Assam. They are getting drawn into fighting both with rebel groups as well as security forces. What was considered a problem in African countries of Sudan, Sierra Leone and other countries like Sri Lanka and Nepal has become a reality for India too.

According to human right activists the actual number of children recruited by state or non state groups as soldiers is not as obvious as in other countries but we know there is an increasing number of children being drawn into active combat. These children exposed to war and conflict are one of the most vulnerable groups often forced to witness or perpetrate combat atrocities. They are scarred for life, their childhood shattered.
